Dancing for the Devil Subject Miranda Derrick Calls Netflix Doc 'One-Sided,' Says She Doesn't Condone Abuse

“I am just a woman trying to live my life. I am not a victim," the TikTok star said

Miranda Derrick is telling her side of the story after the newly released Netflix docuseries Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult insinuated that she was involved in an alleged cult. 

On Tuesday, June 4, the TikTok star refuted claims made by her family and others who have spoken out against Robert Shinn’s 7M organization, the subject of the series.

“Hey guys, I hope you’re having a wonderful day! I just wanted to hop on here really quick and first of all, say thank you so much to everybody who’s been so supportive during this time,” she began in a video shared to her Instagram Stories.

Derrick didn't go “into too much detail because of legal purposes,” but wanted to share her side after the series premiered on May 29.

In the two posts that followed, Derrick shared screenshots of her lengthy statement. 

“I want to start by saying that I appreciate the concern that has been expressed for my well-being. Due to pending litigation, in which I am a plaintiff in a defamation lawsuit, it's not appropriate for me to comment on specific allegations. Though I will state that I do not condone abuse in any way,” the influencer wrote.

“I love my Mom, Dad and Melanie and they will forever be a part of my life. The truth is, we just don't see eye to eye at this time. I believe that this documentary is a one-sided story,” she said, adding, “I gave my life to Jesus Christ in 2020 and asked my family for some space in the very beginning to collect my thoughts and process my new walk I wanted to take with God.”

In the Netflix documentary, Shinn is introduced as the founder of Shekinah Church and 7M Films, both of which Derrick is affiliated with. Shinn’s companies provided hair styling, makeup, wardrobe, cameras, crews, equipment and mansion backdrop settings for TikTok stars.

After Derick's sister Melanie Wilking and their parents claimed Derrick was in a cult in a 2022 Instagram Live video, other families, former 7M Films dancers and former Shekinah Church members raised allegations against Shinn and the church. Shinn, 7M Films and the Shekinah Church have denied the allegations.

Before joining 7M and Shekinah, Derrick and Wilking had amassed an online following as The Wilking Sisters.

In her statement on Tuesday, Derrick claimed she only started her own social media account because Wilking “logged me out of our account and when I asked for access back she denied my request.”

Derrick also addressed missing her grandfather’s funeral after her family had claimed in the documentary that 7M was somehow involved in not allowing her to attend. 

The influencer said for Christmas 2020, their family learned her grandfather didn’t have long to live, so she and her sister went to visit him.

“Before we went into the hospital to [say our last goodbyes], I started to pray for our Papa in the car and Melanie got offended, angry with me and told me to stop and to never pray around her,” Derrick wrote. 

She said when it came time for his funeral, she chose not to go because “I was being harassed” and “felt threatened by" her family.

“I am just a woman trying to live my life. I am not a victim, I am not in any harm, I am not being abused. I've never asked my family or anyone else to 'help' me in any way. Respectfully, what I choose to do with my life is up to me,” Derrick said.
